Fitness Club

Joining a fitness club is something that can really boost your chances of getting fit but the first hurdle is to find one you like. However, until you now what your goal is it will be difficult so you need to work out what you hope to achieve by joining a club. If you choose your club well you will probably be a member for a long time; the reverse is also true. Without doubt the number one point is the location because if it isn’t near your place of work or home you will not keep up your attendance.

Make sure that the instructor has the necessary experience to work with you so he should be a certified professional that can work with you safely and effectively. For people that may have specific requirements or physical limitations, the instructor needs to be made aware of these from the start. If you speak to the staff about their facilities and training programs, this will give you a good idea about the customer service level they provide. Check to see if the fitness club has other professionals are employed there, like martial arts instructors for example.

Try to find a club with flexible opening hours because it is no good if you can only attend in the evening when they are closed. Some people join a fitness club to join classes; of course these are usually an extra charge so if at all possible try and have a free lesson before you commit to anything. It may seem like a minor point but if the club doesn’t have sufficient training equipment to go around, queues are likely to form and that is when people start to leave. One thing to look for is the age of the equipment; the older it is the more likely it is to break down which doesn’t look good on the club.

Never pass up the opportunity to attend a club function if you are invited before you join as it is surprising who you can meet and you might even find a training buddy. While you are doing this research into the club, find out if the membership cost is fairly stable each year and if there are any other costs involved not mentioned on the club tariff. To get a good idea of the fitness clubs available in your area, you should try two or three to see which one ‘feels’ right and meets your needs. Take your time, there is no hurry and be wary of clubs that continue to contact you about membership as there is a fine line between a courteous approach and pestering.
